Appraisal today!

11 replies

Bunglemom · 21/02/2022 11:55

So cut a long story short, i found out i am the lowest paid member of the team (however doing the most work, managing 4 companies!) so i approached the boss about a payrise... (never done that before!) AND today is the DAY!

I have my appraisal and im really hoping that its good news about my pay!

Any tips on negotiation? or to steady my nerves!

How did the appraisal go?

ThePlumVan · 21/02/2022 22:13

Yeh how did it go ??

Don't know but I truly believe a rather patronising fella on another forum, of why do employers want to give pay rises when it is to to little to late?

Bunglemom · 22/02/2022 08:58

@ChoiceMummy @ThePlumVan @Userxxxxx

Well talk about being ambushed!
Bit of back story, Two of us in the admin dept (the other lady is the MD's wife and co owner of the company) we get on like house on fire and have done for many years now...

So the MD was in there with the accountant and instead of discussing the salary i was basically attacked saying that im too nice and if the guys call (I deal with 4 companies under the same name) i always help them out (the are builders so just dont get paperwork!) and that its not running as efficiently as they want it to... dont know why as my work is all up to date!

I came out pretty shell shocked and truth be told it was all from the accountant (shes a bitch of the highest order and sooo quick to point out mistakes that are made, except when she makes them!)

Regarding the pay i should know the outcome in a few weeks as they want to work out my pay based on my hours (i do 35 per week) and they want to base it on a 40 hour week!

Feel totally demoralised and im going to start looking elsewhere...

Truth is people dont leave jobs they leave bad managers!

I've had something similar happen.

It's to make you feel shit about yourself so you feel grateful if they offer you a meagre/no payrise. Plus to punish you for asking in the first place.

Looking for a new job probably a good idea.

ThePlumVan · 22/02/2022 09:27

@Bunglemom sorry to hear that. Sounds awful. Happened to me once, I literally thought I would be getting a pay rise and my own boss hammered me in front of HQ bosses. All stupid things too nothing about my actual work.

It was terrible at the time but within the year he’s been made redundant and I got my promotion. They knew what he was like, otherwise I’d have left soon after.
Hope it gets sorted x

Bunglemom · 22/02/2022 09:42

Thanks @ThePlumVan it literally took me by surprise to be honest!

Nothing was mentioned that i slave away and work damn bloody hard (and that my work has increased 3 fold with no pay!)

I think its time to up and look elsewhere, I'm not going to be grateful and beg for something that i know i can do for more money elsewhere.

@formalineadeline

I think you are right, well im stronger than that and im going to address the issue with the MD in a min... i dont deserve to be spoken to like i was yesterday.

That is rubbish - I applied for a promotion which I didn't get (due to the fact that no internal training had been offered so I wasn't able to show I could do some of the role) anyway due to this I had a shiny CV was approached by a recruiter and now have a new (better) job with more prospects

I am thankful I had the interview as it was practice so - think of this as a positive get that CV written and have a look what is out there.

Good luck

I appreciate that you were ambushed but why didn’t you mention any of those things You were brave enough to approach your boss for a pay rise so you should have fought your corner
