Interview next week - it's been 16 years!

I've been a SAHM for 16 years. Looking to get back into work (am/was a solicitor) and have an interview for a part time job (solicitor) next week.

What do I need to know before then?? What is the interview likely to be like? I've not done a job interview for 20 years! I've already had an informal chat with one of the partners last week but this is a more formal interview with 2 different interviewers (although still online). I'm terrified!

They might ask if you can use the internet. I googled your problem and came up with this website:
uk.indeed.com/career-advice/interviewing/solicitor-interview-questions

Good luck

😂

That was harsh but funny.

Good luck OP! I was a SAHM for 7 years before going back to work full time. I love it. You just been to be confident.

Hi there I'm in the same position as you (SAHM for 15 years, previously worked as a solicitor) I'm job hunting at the moment but I am finding it impossible to get an interview for a solicitor job due to the amount of time I've been out of practice. Was this an issue for yoi at all? I think I have lost my confidence in practicing law, not sure I remember how to! I hope your interview went well and best of luck with the job ❤️

@Lilifer - I was put forward for a job by an old colleague who is now at a different firm. It's only part time but flexible and mostly from home so an ideal toe back in the water.

Do you have any previous colleagues you are still in contact with? Where are you and what practice area were you in?

Ah that sounds great, and fab that it's fairly flexible too.

I haven't really got any contacts as have lost touch with colleagues from private practice and actually the ex boss got struck off a few years after I left for financial mismanagement so the firm closed up and so that's not an option sadly.

But I also feel slightly terrified at the thought of it, going back in after so long. I feel I have forgotten so much.

The area I had most experience in was personal injury litigation, and I live in Northern Ireland. Our law society here is not great about helping women back in to work after long periods out of it, we don't really have any refresher coiurses like they do in England.

Oh lol just re reading my post it could be read it was my mismanagement, it was definitely my ex boss who got struck off for financial Mis management and not me 🤯🙈😅

@Lilifer that is tough. Have you thought of volunteering at CAB (do they have that in NI) which might be a good step in the right direction.

Good idea, am not sure but will check that out. What area do you practice in, and have you found it easy enough to slot back in to the work?

Commercial real estate for me. Not started yet - have to reinstate myself into the roll and that's taking some time.
