I have an interview on Friday via Microsoft teams and I have never used it before and am terrible with tech. I have managed to download it but have no idea how will I know the interview has started??? If I open it will it just appear? The email the company has messaged me the time on is a gmail account not my hotmail. Can anyone help?

Have they sent you a link? Just click on it when the interview is due to start. They will probably have you in a virtual lobby and will then let you into the meeting. I think a box comes up to tell you that you are being admitted. Have your camera on.

Just join the meeting at your allotted time. If they’re ‘organised’ you’ll be held in a ‘lobby’ till they’re ready for you.

Do you have a friend who can practice with you? Get them to download it too and set up a meeting for the two of you?. That way you can get a feel of the layout and where the mute button / camera on button is. Also you can set your background to be blurred if you want so they can’t see your kitchen cupboards.

Good luck.

The email should have a link for you to click on. It doesn't matter what your email domain is. The link will be the same. You click on the link when your interview is due to start. If you have a headset with a microphone they will be able to hear you more clearly, but it doesn't matter if you don't have one.

If it is for office work could you practice using Teams with someone else beforehand?

MadrigalCorp · 16/02/2022 22:07

Maybe see if a friend is on Teams and do a few practice calls with them, playing around with the settings? I did this with Zoom when we went into lockdown before taking my first work meetings. I've also interviewed people on Zoom and those who can use it well created a better impression.

Good luck with the interview!

Thank you very much to everyone who replied. I just looked at the email and there is a highlighted bit at the very bottom with ‘ Join meeting’. So obviously I will just click this 2/3 minutes before the start time and wait?
While im waiting will I be able to see myself so I can check im in the right position?

Yes, just click on. You can see yourself and check your mic.

Snozzlemaid · 16/02/2022 22:18

Yes, if your camera is on you will be able to see yourself to check all us okay.
You can do that before you actually join. When you click the link you will go to a holding page where you can turn on your camera and check how you look before you click the final join meeting button.
Good luck.

Don't worry too much I've interviewed over teams and people m had technical issues and it didn't matter at all in my judgement. Just have a plain background . It'll be fine

toomuchlaundry · 16/02/2022 22:23

I always restart my laptop shortly before using Teams as my mic sometimes doesn’t always work but this seems to sort it. Obviously leave enough time for laptop to restart before your interview

kazza446 · 16/02/2022 22:24

I would try it with a friend first. You can then check things like you mic, positioning etc!

eurochick · 16/02/2022 22:27

I agree - try it with a friend first. You can chose a background if you want one (blurred or something plain) and figure out where everything is so you are not using it for the first time in the interview. Good luck!

Rainallnight · 16/02/2022 22:27

Yes, definitely try with a friend first. I had a Teams interview last year and felt so much more confident having practised with a friend beforehand. Also found that my iPad have a really weird angle but my laptop worked fine. I got the job.

Also think about a back up internet connection. Can you use your phone hotspot if your broadband goes down?

Good luck!

disneylover367 · 16/02/2022 22:31

Thank you everyone, good point internet connection especially in this weather.

There's a way to make a test call on teams to check if your microphone and sound is working ok. You don't want to get into the meeting to discover that no one can hear you. I can't remember how off the top of my head but if someone else can't give you instructions I can pop back on tomorrow.

BashfulClam · 18/02/2022 22:23

You can use your earbuds or headphones on it. I had to download it on my phone as it freezes my laptop. Watch sone YouTube videos, check your lighting and background in advance.

Useranon1 · 18/02/2022 22:35

How did it go @disneylover367 ?

disneylover367 · 18/02/2022 22:49

@Useranon1 I got the job! Thank you so much for asking. I start training at the beginning of next month, Im really excited 😊
