Hi,I have been offered a new job subject to dbs checks and employers reference. Is it polite to make my current employer aware of this?
They have been good employers and I feel it would be rude not to tell them beforehand. Can anyone tell me the correct procedure please.

Wait until you hear back then give the required amount of notice. Good luck 🤞

When your contract for the new job arrives
Not until then

Surely you have asked them out of courtesy to be your referee....so they already now know?

ditalini · 15/02/2022 18:23

Generally I've been on great terms with my boss and so yes, they've known more or less as soon as I get the offer, but NEVER hand in your notice until it's a firm offer.

If it's not such a happy workplace and you think there might be repercussions if you end up not leaving then stay quiet for now.

I'm sad to say that someone I considered a good friend at the time made an employee's life pretty hard when she said she was leaving. Friend had weird ideas about "loyalty" but actually she was being an almighty twat.

They are my employer so nothing to do with courtesy, its a necessity.

Yes, let them know a reference request is coming.
And hold off on the official notice.
