Why do people not respect those in low skilled jobs?

I work as a labourer on building sites and find that people disrespect me for the job I do! All I'm doing is minding my own business and working hard and others just seem to mock or think I'm an idiot for the job i do! Would you look down on people who do low skilled work? I also like to add to the fact that I live in a wealthy town and people there just seem to look down their nose at me because I wear mucky clothes for my job! What's your thoughts please?

Thoughts? Honestly, you don't really sound like a genuine poster. How long have you been on mumsnet?

About 4 months. Why do you ask?

Really? You're mixing with the wrong people then. No one I know would be like that.

Why? Because they’re arseholes?

No, I don’t look down on people who do low skilled work. Where would we be if nobody did the work?

Some people are just stuck up. They’re no better than anybody else.

@SouthMan28 absolutely not. Labourers do an important job. My DH owns a large construction firm and I would never disrespect any of the labourers.

Also feel it’s relevant to mention; almost of of the labourers we employ earn more than NQT, some HCP etc so why people look down on you I don’t know.

Yeah! Some builders I've come across on site think Labourers are thick and just mock them! And there are some stuck up people where I live too!

Yes my husband gets this. He gets spoken to like shit for the job he does. And friends who have more professional jobs can be patronising towards us, whether it's intentional or not.

@SouthMan28 they happy to get their gear themselves them? Load out for themselves? Spread for themselves? Go to the silo themselves?

Nope, didn’t think so!!! Honestly, ignore them!
