BPSS

Hi there,

I've just got a job with a government agency and am due to submit my documents for BPSS. I have just one problem I'd like to run by with you'll. I lied on my CV about an employer who I didn't work for but is basically a start-up set up by a friend. I didn't want to lie but I was unemployed over a year and didn't want that to hinder my prospects. I have 5 years of great experience prior to that but BPSS only checks last 3 years, so they don't count. It's the 1st year I'm most worried about. I had a fallout with the friend as they cheated us in a separate financial matter so I don't want to go to him for a reference. Does anyone know how stringent these checks are, do they go to the company for references? Can I say the company doesn't exist anymore or the person I worked for isn't there anymore? As I said, I wouldn't have lied and it was only a way to protect my sanity and get a job. I have a fantastic career otherwise, have a clean record, moved to UK 3 years ago and went through deep depression because of certain things I went through during that year. Please do not reprimande for this and if possible, any advice would be much appreciated 🙏

CS do not care about periods of unemployment, they will care that you lied. The checks are stringent and they will pursue reference as far as they can.

Please learn from this, you should never lie on a CV or career history.
