Hi,
I've been in my current job 2.5 years, it was a slightly new role and industry (same skillset) after being made redundant and I accepted a pay-cut because I needed a job and it was a good business and opportunity.
Anyway 2.5 years later, I've totally outgrown the role, working way above my remit and getting outstanding performance reviews. The structure and leadership is somewhat lacking so despite this being acknowledged and opportunities promised, due to politics and budgets, I haven't been offered any promotion so far. The team is struggling to find its role and identity within the business so I'm not confident that it will be possible to ever get the right opportunity.
A couple of weeks ago I got frustrated and applied for roles internally and externally. I've now got second interviews for 2 external roles and 1 internal.
I'm feeling overwhelmed and unsure what to do. I want and deserve a bigger role, more responsibility and reward but I'm conscious that I have put so much work in that just leaving feels like a waste. Should I use a job offer as leverage to prompt my current business or am I better off out given the team isn't in a great place?
I'd love an objective view on moving roles vs staying where you've put the ground work in.
Thank you!
