Civil service

Hello, does anyone know if civil servants can get time off for job interviews if they’re on a fixed term contract, which is coming to an end soon? I have heard rumours about this but unsure if true.

I've worked in 5 different civil service departments and there has never been a formal allowance for time off for interviews. Most people take a/l or use flexi.

If you're coming to the end of a FTA your manager will most likely be understanding about the need to have time off for interviews - talk to them and make an arrangement. Personally as a manager I'm always very supportive of members of my team who want to look for new opportunities, and I never refuse time off for an interview.

Thank you @Doorhandleghost, you sound like a great manager. I will be upfront with mine as the interview is next week so I won’t be able to provide plenty of notice of leave.

You are definitely allowed to in the department I work for.
Good luck with the interview Smile

Fine in my department if you’ve been issued the three month notice for end of contract
