In a mediation meeting with a co-worker, will line managers and HR be impartial?

If so, can I have someone there to support me and not be impartial?

I've been in mediation twice in different workplaces. In both instances we had no HR or management present. There was an external mediator both times.

You can ask if your TU rep could be there to support you or a trusted colleague. They would not be able to say anything, just offer you support.

As pp said the mediator should be independent and it should be you and the co-worker.
