Scared to move on

I've worked in my present job for 9 years and I'm bored. I've always been settled and happy to coast along but the last few months I've been feeling restless and stale and find myself moaning a lot. I've turned 40, separated from exH and moved house so maybe it's part of an overall change needed?

I have an interview this week and am terrified! What if I actually get it and have to move on? The new job has a further commute and is a lower scale to my qualification but it's something I'm pretty sure I would like.

Help!!

Fear of the unknown is usually terrifying for most.

I'm finally interviewing this week after 7 years of not having to and I'm absolutely terrified. Mostly what if it doesn't work out and I've left a secure job of 7 years.

But I suppose we need to start thinking more about what if it works out and it's our chance at a fresh start.

I genuinely feel sick about my interviews which is a shame as I really do believe in myself in any job I do. But I accept I am really unhappy where I am and won't ever get change if I don't take these steps.

Good luck. It may be the start of your next chapter

@Needanewadventure2021
Change is scary isn't it? It's that fear of regret, either that we didn't take that chance or regret that we did and now hate it. My self confidence is shot to pieces too after a horrible couple of years, I don't like myself very much so am frightened I will be a failure.

Good luck with your interview, I hope it goes really well! Flowers

It's a great opportunity to start again now and to live as a person you want to be.

You are in my prayers. Good luck.

I’ve just accepted a new job after 17 years in the previous one! …. and 6 interviews. I’m feeling very excited! Good luck all!

I got the job. I am over the moon and quite frankly cannot believe how well and perfect it feels for me. My first interview since 2015!

Go for it. Honestly I feel amazing right now and cannot believe I nearly let my nerves and fears of change get the better of me

I left a job after 10 years and I was terrified! It turned out to be a great decision and I learned so much.

I've just been offered a job that I interviewed for last week. I am still in shock and terrified!
I hate interviews with a passion and was surprised to have two in two days - first one went ok, second one was a bit shit. I was offered the first one.
I am of course doubting that I can do the job I applied for, esp after 22 yrs working for the same company and this new role being in a totally different field. Imposter syndrome and all that I think
But I obviously applied thinking I need a change and the pay rise will help Grin

Congratulations. Well done

Congratulations to everyone for getting their new roles! I will soon be starting a new role after 10 years in my current role.. getting nervous now! Any advice?!

Just take one day at a time! I was convinced I'd made a mistake after the first day but within a few weeks I'd found my stride, I think you want to know everything straight away but it takes time to settle in. Good luck!
