Fixed Term Contract Renewal and Giving Notice

Current FTC imminently ending. Extension was discussed on email but no new contract has been presented and therefore signed (HR v busy and just overlooked rather than not happening).
I've been offered a new permanent job elsewhere, if I quit can they hold me to the notice period (1 month) in the FTC as we discussed the extension on email or can I go when the current contract ends?

It depends what your FTC actually says as they can be worded no notice required and contract ends on x date or notice required.

If you want to take the new job, out of courtesy give notice asap and state last day is end date of FTC. No sensible employer would pursue a notice period on a FTC.

Agree. Your contract ends when your contract ends, but as they've discussed an extension with you I'd give them as much notice as you can so that they're aware you won't be accepting the extension.
