Am I mad….

To apply for a job I have no experience for but know I’d love and be good at.
Basically it’s a pharmacist dispensing assistant. I have worked in customer service for 22 years and currently a manager but I want to move away from management and want to help my local community and have a complete change of career.
Also it’s 5 mins from my house so that’s a bonus but I just have a feeling I’d love this job!
Would I be mad to apply?? Lots of my skills are transferable it’s just a case of learning ! I am a fast learner, can do qualifications in my spare time etc.
Have stranger things happened? Has anyone here taken a gamble that’s paid off?

Yeah you'd probs get sectioned if you applied

Tirediam · 24/01/2022 21:54

@Yuckypretty alright sarky
It’s daunting applying for a job when I’ve worked in the same place for coming up to 14 years.

Go for it. The qualification is ok and not too bad to do.

Hapoydayz · 24/01/2022 21:57

Go for it, they can only say no but they may not

IsaLating · 24/01/2022 21:57

Do they have an “essential criteria” which you don’t meet?

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 24/01/2022 22:07

I successfully applied for this post after being made redundant years ago, I turned it down as I was offered a better (for me) job. I didn't have any relevant experience or qualifications.

I remember being asked lots of questions about how I would deal with the people who came in for methadone and how would I cope if they were aggressive!

Tirediam · 24/01/2022 22:19

@Hapoydayz no just preferred.

@fabulouslyglamorousferret that’s good to know. I just feel like I’ve come to the end now and I feel so fed up. My boss isn’t going anywhere so a promotion up isn’t likely !
Thanks all

You'd kick yourself if you didn't!

Good luck!

HollowTalk · 25/01/2022 15:51

Wouldn't it be a much lower salary?

How did you answer it? Interested to know what the right way to answer would be
Tirediam · 25/01/2022 19:49

@HollowTalk £5k less a year… I think I can manage that.. just be very tight for a while, but no commute at all so no fuel costs.

@purpleme12

I think I just talked about remaining calm, building non judgemental relationships with users and knowing when to escalate concerns (ie call the police!)

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 03/02/2022 20:21

@Tirediam

Did you apply?
