What's the most appropriate way to react to positive feedback?

I have quite low self-esteem so my instinct is to be like "oh it was nothing!" or brush it off, but in a professional setting that seems inappropriate.

My manager and senior staff are very generous with their feedback. I never know how to react... Earlier today my manager gave me good feedback on a piece of work and I replied saying 'thank you', but wasn't really sure if that was the appropriate response? He then replied saying he had emailed the head of our department to tell her that I had done really well on that project.

I end up feeling embarrassed and not knowing what to say.

What is the most appropriate way to respond? Just simply 'thank you'?

PS: I'm not bragging or implying I'm some super employee, my company culture is just very big on positive feedback. It can be bemusing at times but it's nice, especially as someone who has only been there a few months

I’d say thank you and that you appreciate them taking the time to give you feedback

Yes, a simple thank you is enough Smile

I think thank you is fine, especially if it's frequent.

Reflecting on how conversations go where I work, sometimes if it was a particularly interesting / challenging / noteworthy piece of work, people might comment back with something positive from the work and have a little bit of casual chit chat.

But not like awards ceremony acceptance speeches ("I'd like to thank my manager, of course my parents, and also my bus driver for bringing me to work so I could do this project..."). Just like "oh, thank you, I really enjoyed working on this one" or "thank you, I was a bit nervous about that presentation but it has been a real confidence boost".

Depends on the person giving you the feedback and your working relationship with them as much as anything.

Thank you.
And if you feel that’s not enough you can add: That’s very kind of you.
