I work in a 24/7 industry with shift ranging from 2am starts to midnight starts.
I've been doing my job for almost 18 years.
In 2020 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I had chemo/radio/brachytherapy and the treatment was successful.
However it placed me into early menopause and the radiation left me with some issues regarding my bladder and bowels.
I have returned to work and resumed my shift patterns. However I've really really struggled with night shifts. They are 7 nights once every 12 weeks or so.
I used to love them - I swapped for them and did them every 3 weeks previously.
Now I sleep for 2.5 - 3 hours in every 24 and that's all I get. My bladder wakes me. My bowels wake me and generally I am unable to stay asleep.
We have various other employees on accommodated hours. Some for health conditions. Some due to looking after an elderly relative.
I've had a meeting with OH who agreed I needed altered hours. My immediate manager also agreed in a meeting last week. However higher management have refused this I found out today.
Is there anything I can do? I do not want to leave me job. And I am willing to try ti resume night shift working in the future. Perhaps my pelvic radiation disease will settle down along with the post menopause crap sleep in general.
