Please could you advise common general questions that tend to be asked?

Trying to prepare as much as I can for an interview next week and just wondering what types of generic questions they're likely to ask, although I know the questions won't be the same everywhere. Just trying to be as prepared as I can.

Thank you 😊

I’ve found it useful in the past to read the “job interview” books from my library, they usually have typical questions and advice on how to answer.
I guess it is somewhat dependent on the industry and seniority but here are a few I’ve been asked regularly:
Tell us about yourself?
Why are you leaving your current role & why do you want to work for us?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
What is your ideal role?
What part of your role do you like the most/ the least?
If your friends/colleagues could describe you in 3 words, what would they say?
What do you think you’ll bring to the role?
What are your strengths/weaknesses? Specifically for this role?
Give me an example of a time… (STAR type questions): when you had to deliver bad news, deal with conflicting priorities/ difficult colleagues/ difficult client, a time where you delivered below your best…
What is your biggest achievement in your career to date?
How do you like to be managed?
How do you stay up to date with your industry?
How do you work with others? (e.g. how do you deal with conflict)
Also be prepared to discuss salary expectations and logistics, e.g. if you need to relocate or use public transport, when can you start…

Good luck with your interview!

@Xanorra wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write this! It's really helpful.
I'll be writing them all down and thinking of answers to practise. Appreciate your help 😊

Do you know if it’s a competency based interview?

Last 2 interviews I had I was asked what other people/my team would say were my 3 greatest strengths and 2 greatest weaknesses, and it’s a standard question where I now work.

WouldIBeATwat · 22/01/2022 10:07

If it is competency based you need to focus on the STAR answer approach in relation to points on the JD.

Google top interview questions and you’ll get results from reed, total jobs etc

@WouldIBeATwat they haven't actually specified, but I will look into those just to be prepared if I am asked those type of questions.

Thanks all so much for your responses. Really helpful 😊

Will look into what you've all advised. Really appreciate your help!

I had an interview recently and was surprised at how little they asked me about myself. It was entirely based on work experience relating to the role. Good luck
