Exit package whilst on mat leave - what to ask for?

Hi,

On mat leave. My organisation has changed a lot since I left and my role has, in reality, disappeared. I’ve been told informally it’s likely I’ll be offered an exit package.

I’m rather happy with this but have zero idea what to be asking for.

For info, our redundancy is statutory and my notice period 3 months.

Should I be asking them to mirror redundancy and put me on gardening leave my notice period? No idea!

Thanks in advance x

Hi
No experience of what an exit package looks like but I was made redundant on mat leave. We were only on statutory too, so got that for each year i was in the business plus my notice period plus any outstanding holidays including bank holidays, this includes your notice period. I would also negotiate a bit more as good will. You could also ask for all of your kit days to be paid, if you were willing to do those if you were returning.

Best of luck, but it sounds like you are happy with this arrangement.

When I took redundancy on maternity leave my notice was paid at full pay rather than SMP. Any SMP left after my leave date would have been paid as well. Not sure if this was a legal obligation or not.

Yes as above full pay for notice period and holiday owed. X

I would have thought its something that 'they' offer you to go, and not something that 'YOU' decide the terms of? I have no idea but ACAS might be able to advise.

IF it is indeed for you to come up with the offer, I'd start bigger/more pay etc, because you can always reduce it in a counter off.

It’s correct they do offer, but they may ask me my expectations, and even if they do open, it’s me having a ball park of what’s acceptable.

Once your maternity leave is up:

  • Three months full pay in lieu of notice
  • Payment for all holidays owed
  • Pension contribution on the above
  • Statutory redundancy pay - it's something like 1 week for every year of service

And if you think they would pay a bit more then ask for it - nothing ventured...
