Change of role following maternity leave

Has anyone been in a similar situation to mine?

I returned from maternity leave having only taken 26 weeks so legally am entitled to return to my old job. A few weeks before my return, I was told they'd be changing my role from new clients to working with existing clients. I have absolutely no desire to do this, it involves a lot more admin/desk work and less trading. It is however the same job title, pay and grade.

To slightly complicate matters, I was seconded (I applied for this) prior to my mat leave and a member of the new clients team was promoted.

Work have said they don't need two of us in new clients so I have to go to existing.

I've been offered another job which I want to take, however my existing employer will claw back enhanced mat pay if I leave within 12 months of return and it's been just over a month, so the amount I'd have to pay is quite a lot.

It seems so unfair I'm stuck in a job I don't like and don't want!

Any help or advice is really appreciated.

Have you called ACAS?

@bcc89 I have read the online advice and it reads that I am entitled to my old job back.

I contacted employment lawyer today for further advice and waiting for them to get back to me hopefully with positive news.

It feels v unfair as I wouldn't be in this position if I hadn't had a baby
