Shortlisting

I excuse my naivety in this regard beforehand!

Is it normal to wait 6 weeks to be shortlisted and then a further 2 for the interview date? It is a fairly big organisation within my area, so maybe this is why the process is longer?

I've had many interviews previously, but those were jobs with smaller companies and the overall process from being shortlisted, to being interviewed and being offered the position was all quite straightforward and over with quite quickly.

I presume with larger companies, the process does tend to be longer due to possibly having to go through HR etc. first, but I was just reaching out for others experiences.

Would appreciate any responses to put my busy mind at peace!

Thanks in advance 😊

6 weeks does seem quite a long time but it can take a while in a large organisation especially if you have multiple people shortlisting and sitting on the panel. These people are often fitting it in around their day to day jobs.

I work at a university and the last time I recruited the interview date was 5 weeks after the closing date and we took just over 2 weeks to shortlist.

Normal. As others have said you are fitting this around your own work and if there are a high number of applicants that can be tricky. Add in Christmas, plus COVID and you have even more delays potentially.

Pretty poor but not out of the realm of what's normal. Especially given that Christmas fell in between and relevant people may have been off with covid etc.

Thank you all for your replies.

I was hoping it was because of Xmas, covid and just generally being busy trying to fit it in alongside their own jobs.
