Hi, I have an interview next week for a school finance role and I am to be set two tasks.

Does anyone have any ideas please on what these might be?

Thanks Smile

I would have thought something involving a spreadsheet is a good bet, google excel tests? Maybe something to do with making pivot tables or doing v look ups or similar (you'd be surprised how many people that use excel regularly can't do these relatively basic things well).

Maybe also an inbox type exercise where you have to prioritise and respond to incoming items, or perhaps drafting a written response to a query, or writing some commentary on data or similar? Basically I'd expect it to be based around whatever you'll have to do on a day to basis in the role and the skills they want you to demonstrate so look at the job description and person specification for clues. Good luck!

I had very similar in my roll, I was given a spreadsheet in excel and had to add headings, separate sections, produce graphs etc. Then a separate word one based upon how I would respond to an email sent in etc Both had to be done within 40:minutes and emailed over.

Sorry for not seeing your message until now, thanks for replying.

It was actually a fairly simple excel task and then drafting an email...and I got the job

Thank you

Congratulations. Well done

Can I ask are you from a school background?

FinanceTask · 27/01/2022 21:57

Sorry, that was meant to be 'I got the job Smile'
Smiley fail!

I'm not, I work in an accountants now but wanted school hours for childcare - I'm made up!

That's promising. I have 2 interviews coming up next week in a school office. I have a heavy admin background but never in a school. But this has given me some hope.

Now I've just got to get through the interviews. I'm terrified.

Well done again

Good luck, I was the most nervous I'd ever been for an interview too as I felt I couldn't wing it like I could if needed with my old job.

I wrote answers out for every question I thought I might be asked and read them every night for a week so I was really prepared - it helped a lot as whatever they asked I could draw on something and answer well.

Don't forget the safeguarding question as you will definitely be asked that Smile
