Interview on Friday for brilliant job!

Hi everyone,

I applied just after Christmas for a 'dream' job of mine and I've got an interview on Friday! Shock it came up early last year and I applied but didn't get an interview so, while I'd really love to get this job, I'm just delighted to have got this one step further.

I don't want to get my hopes up as, even if they did offer it to me, there's some questions I have around conditions/WFH, etc. There are also at least three other people being interviewed, but I'm trying not to think about that!

I've gone back through the job description and made notes about how I meet the criteria and thought of examples I can give for the key points. I've had to write a presentation to submit tomorrow ahead of the interview, so I'm practising that as well, timing and recording myself and listening back. I'm making a list of questions to ask them (one of them is 'what do you enjoy about working here?' - is that too cheesy?!). I'm also going to do some STAR examples for the key points on the job description. I've been reading some key policies as well, and I'm familiar with the work the organisation does because I do some work for them already on a (very) P/T basis.

What else can I be doing? Does anyone have any recommendations? It's a academic-related role in HE, if that helps. Smile

Thank you! Flowers

Good luck with your interview!

Cottagepieandpeas · 21/01/2022 11:20

How did you get on @FeelingFinePorcupine ?
I hope it went well.

I've got an interview next Friday which I'm so nervous about and just about to start a thread with specific questions!

FeelingFinePorcupine · 21/01/2022 11:43

Thank you, everyone! I actually got much more nervous in the interview than I thought I would Sad so it didn't go anywhere near as well as I'd hoped, but it's done now, and I got one step further than last time. They did like the questions I asked though, so thank you all so much for your advice and suggestions! It was nice to end on a positive even if I felt like a burbling mess during the part where they asked me the questions Grin

They're going to let me know either way early next week, so we'll see, but I'll be very surprised if I've got it. I think a mock interview next time is definitely the way to go! Thanks so much, everyone Flowers

Ah, you may have done much better than you thought - and of course you don't know what the other candidates will have been like! Best of luck Flowers

@MaverickSnoopy

I used to work in HR in a University. When I had my interview they were most impressed when I asked how I would know whether I was succeeding in my role and how my performance would be measured.

Good luck with your interview.

I like this, thanks fir the tip.

Just updating to say... that there's no update yet Grin I thought it'd be a no straightaway on Monday morning but haven't heard anything either way. Trying really hard not to read too much into it, but even if it is a no (which I'm totally expecting), I just want to find out so that I can plan next steps. Hopefully I'll hear soon. 'Start of the week' is definitely open to interpretation! Thanks for all your comments and support. Smile

Any news yet?

FeelingFinePorcupine · 28/01/2022 06:36

Still nothing yet, @boatyardblues, but thank you for asking! I emailed earlier in the week to ask when I might hear anything or be able to get any feedback and I had a reply to say that the panel still hadn't decided. Not sure whether that's positive or not, but I suppose it's not a 'no' yet, so there's still hope! Thank you for asking Smile

I've been offered the job! Shock Grin or rather, a job, actually not exactly the one that I interviewed for, but the same position in a department which is a much better fit with my skills/experience/interest, which I'm so so pleased about! It took longer than expected for them to get back to me because this role was being sorted out behind the scenes. I'm surprised but over the moon! Thank you all for your advice and support, I'm convinced it was the questions you all suggested that clinched it Grin
