Hi. I work 20 hours a week and a single parent. I have recently joined universal credit and I was hoping for some help from them with possibility of getting on some courses (which was absolutely useless) ever since I got into contact with them I have been having to go to the job center every 2 weeks which is a nightmare because I'm having to leave work early ( I finished at 1:30pm) to get to the appointment on time or they give me times around the end of school. I have spoken to the girls at work who are In the exact situation as me but have not ever been contacted by the job center. I have asked the job Center and they just tell me everyone will have to go to appointment but I know that's not the case. Any help?

Depending on the age of your child they will want you to be earning the equivalent of 35 hours per week on minimum wage. I think school age they expect at least 25 hours as this fits in with school hours.
Can you ask for the appointments to be telephone appointments- citing childcare needs.
Check your claimant commitment.
