Job offer and other job second interview

I have interviewed for a job that I have now been offered.

I also have an appointment for a second interview for another job.

The second interview for job 2 is 2 days after the first company would like me to start work.

I'd prefer the second job for various reasons including home working as opposed to a long commute in first job.

I don't want to mess anyone around and they are both small companies that can't afford to just wait. I know the first job have been looking for some time and there is now some urgent catching up to be done.

I don't know what to do. Obviously I don't want to start job 1 and sign a contract and then walk away from it if I was lucky enough to be offered job 2.

Are you working at the moment?

I'd start the new job and then worry about job 2 when you are made an offer

I'm not working at the moment but I am doing some freelance work and I'm not desperate for a job either.

When I was younger and in a different life position I would have just taken the first job but now I feel like I can afford to pick and choose a little bit.

Personally if I wasn't desperate and wasn't 100% sold on it I wouldn't take job 1.
How would you feel if you declined job 1 and then didn't get job 2? I think that's a good way to work out what's right for you

I have gone back to job 1 and asked to work different days and let them know about holidays etc.

They've said they'll let me know what days I can work "early next week". I'm supposed to be starting work next Weds / Thurs.

I think I will start working there if they agree to what I have asked and then I'll interview for job 2.

I'd be happy with either job but I'm not desperate for either.

Difficult one as you were offered this first. I’ve never been in this situation but I wouldn’t hold out for job 2 if you have job one. But that’s just me.

I'm freelance do have no idea about this! But could you contact Job 2 and say you've been offered a job but would love to interview for them, so could they move your second interview up a few days?

But again, I'm clueless here. 😂

I did think about doing that but the other job is working from home and the interviewer is hiring a meeting room specifically on that day for interviews so not easy to change that.

No, I didn't start the job because they emailed me on Monday and said they'd had a change of plan and now needed someone 5 days a week.

I explicitly told them I wanted part time and we had agreed hours so I think it was just an excuse. Very odd behaviour anyhow.

On the positive side I had the interview for the other job today which I would prefer anyway and I think it went well 🤞

I think that’s good because I was just coming on to say not to take the first one as you would always have your bags packed at the door there.
