Any ex-pharmacists?

I want to get out of pharmacy. Anyone here managed to do that? Or want to do it?

Interested to hear what you do now if so and what the transition was like.

Probably a bit niche for this site.

Pharmaceutical research?
Clinical trials?
Specials manufacturing units like Bath ASU or ones within the NHS?
Lecturing in pharmacy?
Quality Control/ Assurance?
All I know are linked to pharmacists but a different take on it.

I know some ex pharmacists that went into healthcare consulting and have built successful careers out of it.

MmmDeadGnome · 10/01/2022 21:21

Thanks for the reply @Mum2jenny I think it’s telling that I shuddered as I read that list, although it’s a very relevant list. I think I’m going through a phase of burn out and nothing is going to appeal. Or maybe wanting to do something very different. Sorry for rambling.

@ree348 Never knew that was a thing. I’ll look into that, thanks.

Clinical excellence/ safety for software companies - PMR and the like?

Mum2jenny · 10/01/2022 21:31

I personally would recommend to avoid any thing related to theNHS at the moment. Despite the options I have given, it is absolutely shite currently.

GreenLunchBox · 10/01/2022 21:33

I saw one today that is now a pharmaceutical rep. That sounds too much like hard work to me

Healthcare consulting sounds good....but I wonder what is it and how would you get into it

NigellaAwesome · 10/01/2022 22:17

Can I ask what is wrong with pharmacy as a career?

Dd is interested in medicine and we thought this might be an alternative if medicine isn't right for her.

I changed sectors, community pharmacy was leading me towards a mental breakdown and serious burnout.

Hospital is much nicer, though I'm struggling to pay my bills (actually came on here to start a new thread about pay vs job satisfaction).

I know a few people who escaped though: one started her own dog kennels another got on the Aldi management program (she earns much more than I do, more flexible hours and a company car not to mention proper sick/maternity pay).
