Help! I don’t know what I can do!

Hello mumnetters,

We’ve been dealt some very bad luck recently and I just don’t know what to do.

A year ago my husband was diagnosed with cancer and I’ve been desperately trying to learn to drive so I can help him get to and from appointments and to get myself back into work (it’s been over 10 years!) but now my driving instructor is poorly and unable to offer me anymore lessons and I’m very close to being test ready but there’s no other instructors near me (automatic and living rurally) so I’ve no licence for me.

We’ve also now just been given 2 months notice as our landlords need to sell the property which is a devastating blow as we love where we live.

We’ve found a house that looks perfect but it’s more than what we pay now, we’ll be stretching ourselves a bit thin so I’m trying to look into what kind of jobs I could apply for.

In the past I’ve only ever worked in retail and I hated it, I’m artistic but that’s never gotten me far.
Working from home would be absolutely ideal as I also have children so I need to be home for them and obviously without a driving licence my options are even more limited, I don’t think I’d cope well as a telesales person due to having autism, I’d be better in a role which doesn’t require much interaction with others or email communication as I just don’t cope well speaking over the phone.

What can I do? I don’t look very promising to employers with no recent employment history and a poor skill set but I need to do something to help us stay afloat!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi sorry to see you didn't get a reply. I wonder about just looking online (indeed site has jobs) maybe something like an online helper / chat?

there might be something on there which catches your eye. Sorry to hear about the cancer and house situation Flowers and hope things pick up for you both.

How good are you with Microsoft Office products- Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word?

Not job related but are you eligible for any benefits to top up your income like Universal credit ?

Can you get to a big hospital? There will be admin type roles there that are all about accuracy and reliability when working with information, rather than patient-facing, if that's more your thing. They can be very oversubscribed though, depending on where you are.
