I started a new job around 8 weeks ago. It’s sensitive and complex and time pressured. There can be ambiguous outcomes, ie you may make a different decision to me based on the same information. This is then reviewed.
At every single review my manager disagrees, I could ask him about the same case an hour later and he’s completely contradict himself. Sometimes we have reflective discussions,
He interrupts and makes decisions based on half a sentence. If I recommend black, he recommends white.
It came to a head today and my work has been torn to shreds, most of it based on paperwork rather than quality of practical work. I raised the fact that advice is contradictory most days, that if I say X should happen he says No, Y should.
He denied it basically. A while I back I was told to put more detail in certain areas, today I was told it’s too lengthy and I should be more succinct.
There’s a higher manager. But I’m new and I doubt I’d get far in challenging it.
I love the job, love the work etc. I’ll never get it right because I can’t do right for doing wrong.
Aaaarrrggh, just needed a rant basically
