Notice for training

I have tried to search for the answer but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

Does anybody know how much notice I should be given for training that is required outside of my working hours?
It regularly comes up with my job now eg today after working hours a message comes through saying we need to do training on one of xyz days next week

I hate working for this company right now and am actively looking for another position they expect the world and more from us

Are you part time and, if so, are your working days contractually agreed? I assume if you are expected to do training on one of your non-work days you get time off in lieu, or are paid overtime. Does the requirement to train on a non-working day cause you problems with childcare?

I think that if you are contracted to work Monday-Wednesday and are being informed that you have to work a different day you could decline on the grounds that you've had insufficient notice to arrange childcare. Or indeed anything else that you have arranged for a non-working day. What would happen if you said sorry can't do because I've booked a medical appointment that I can't change?

I think it depends what your contract says, in a nutshell. Is there an HR department (although HR will ALWAYS side the the management they do have to abide by company policy).
