Just wondering if working low skilled jobs all your life a bad thing in society? And would the person be seen as a failure in life?

Bad how? Society needs there to be people doing jobs at all skills levels.

At an individual level, it's horses for courses, isnt it? It depends on whether the person has enough money to live on/gets personal fulfilment from work if they need it, same for social approval.

*skill levels

if you enjoy it and it pays the bills and funds the lifestyle you are happy with, then that's all anyone would want from any job.
The country needs someone doing those jobs, they're important in their own right.

Agree with pp. Define "bad "
If a person has job satisfaction, is happy with their wage, is content with their job then don’t see how this can be "bad". Surely an individual can choose to do this if they like?

I would hope that most people have opportunities to develop skills and change jobs if that is what they wish (I realise that this might not be true and I may live in a complete bubble!).

A jobs a job. As long as you can live on what you have coming in then it’s fine. I don’t want expensive things, fancy clothes, nice holidays or a posh car, I’m happy doing low skilled jobs and not having the high level of stress that you get with higher skilled jobs.

If the past 2 years have taught us anything, it's surely that it's how important to society so many of those low-paid/low-skilled jobs are.

Pickledpeppa has it

I am never sure what low skill means

I know people who use it to describe the most important jobs, like care worker or refuse collector.

Absolutely not. We have the wrong values in this country with fame being seen as the highest accolade alongside sporting/acting/musical achievement. Intelligence comes some what lower and caring/ supporting roles which are vital are bottom of barrel!! From a community perspective low paid workers are vital as they are typically doing essential work for the community. From an individual perspective it comes down to personal happiness, not everyone is career minded. Some people enjoy a job for what it is rather than money/status. Some people wrk to live so a job is a means to an end. My job isn't highly paid but I enjoy it and most importantly it fits round what's important to me. My family.

HariboMaroon · 16/02/2022 20:10

It’s fine and just depends on the individual.

I feel like I’ve wasted my degree at times but the reality is I can’t be bothered with the stress and responsibility that comes with higher paid roles.

I live in a council house, but I still have plenty of money left to spare even with a NMW job as my outgoings are low.

I love my husband very, very much and I know he feels the same way about me.

My life is very contented.
