What size computer monitor do you have?

I need to buy an external monitor to attach to a new laptop I'm getting.

I just wondered what size monitor people tend to have.

Is 27" too big?

I don't game so would use it for work, but I look at multiple documents all day and I've read that 27" can be useful for looking at documents side by side.

My current one is 24" and seems fine, but the one I've seen that ticks all boxes is 27".

Just wondering if it would seem a bit massive / cause eye strain looking at something so big all day!

Bigger the better and 27" is not excessive. Ds's is 27" and mine is much older and 24", he wont let me swap them even though he uses his less than mine 😫

Just checked and mine is 22" and seems big enough for me. I've got a small area for a desk though.

In my experience, would say that the bigger the better. You're only going to buy one monitor, so don't end up wishing you had brought a bigger one.

I have two 23 inch plus the laptop screen.

CharmingScene · 04/01/2022 19:31

Thanks all. Sounds like 27" May be the way to go!

A desk monitor arm is also great to free up desk space.

CharmingScene · 04/01/2022 19:59

Thanks @WeAllHaveWings I hadn't considered one of those.

It depends on what you're using it for, tv and films, the bigger the better, for normal work 18 diagonal is adequate.

Mine is a gaming one as I use it for a digital and photoshopping business. It's not the size it's the quality

We have 27 inch monitors on each home desk. I had 22 previously and upgraded as soon as I used the 27! Bigger is definitely better if you are using multiple docs or spreadsheets.

SingingSands · 04/01/2022 20:18

I have a 27" monitor with my laptop on a riser next to it. In the office I have two 27" screens.

1 x 24" at home
If I ever get the dock station working, will be laptop screen + 1x24" sometimes.

I have 2 x 24" in office, which is better

lljkk · 04/01/2022 21:14

I used DS's for a long spell, amazing resolution, 28 or 32" I think.

RedSnail · 04/01/2022 21:16

I work with spreadsheets and find below 24” difficult, 24” acceptable, 27” preferable, but all of those are with laptop screen too. Second screen even if only laptop is essential for comparing documents side by side really.

Justkeeppedaling · 04/01/2022 21:20

Our work ones are 27". The one I have at home is a bit bigger and I love it.

CharmingScene · 04/01/2022 23:29

I'm so glad almost everyone has said 27" is preferable. Went out this evening, but before I did I ordered a 27". Great to come back and see these affirmations!
