Self certify for a month?!

GP receptionist has told my sister that the Doctor will not give her a fit note until she's self- certified her time off work for a month.

I've always known self-cert to be one week, sister's boss says the same and is expecting her to show up or book unpaid leave if Doctor won't sign her off.

Has anyone else heard of this?
Is it a covid related change or is receptionist stalling her?

It's temporarily changed to 28 days for self certification

It changed to 28 days last month to ease the pressure on GPs

Ooh wow, what a relief - she was steeling herself to lose her payAngry

Thank you to everyone who posted, I've sent her the link to show her boss and advised her to speak to HR too.

I love you mumsnettersFlowers
