Bank holiday pay

Anyone here work in HR ? Our company has today sent email to the staff informing them that we will not be paid for the bank holiday worked over Christmas barring Christmas and Boxing Day. So the staff who worked Monday and Tuesday will get normal rate ,despite the fact the timesheets clearly marked Mon/ Tues as BH .
Any thoughts please would be much appreciated .

Do you normally get extra for working a bank holiday? Or is it just the people working Saturday and Sunday that will get an enhanced rate of pay?

Ohisitreally · 29/12/2021 22:06

Yes we have always been paid BH rates .

Nobody in HR can answer this, unless they work in your company’s HR department of course. As this will be down to what the contract states not statutory employment law.

Are you saying people who work Sat 25th and Sun 26th will get enhanced rates. But people who work the bank holidays in lieu on the 27th and 28th will get paid flat rate?
If you are normally open on weekends I can sort of see where they are coming from, but they could have done with letting you know way before now.

You can kind of understand that they won't want to pay for an extra 2 bank holidays if they have already paid extra for the 2 weekend days.

I think what they have done makes sense but if your contract says that bank holidays are paid at an enhanced rate then they can't alter that at short notice.
