Interview help please

I am a SAHM and have been for a number of years. Occasionally I have done part time work, but financially I am struggling and want something more permanent that will give me a regular income. I struggle with childcare if the kids are ill during the day, but my partner is home overnight so I thought it would be a good idea to get a job that I can work nights instead.

I have lost my confidence and feel I'm not good enough or qualified enough to apply for most jobs. A few months ago I applied for a night stock replenishment job at Waitrose. It was an online application and I didn't hear nothing back from them and assumed I wasn't successful.

Yesterday I was invited to an interview at one of their stores, tomorrow night 9pm and now I'm panicking about it. It says there will be an assessment, followed by an interview. I wasn't expecting an assessment for a night time stock replenishment job and have no idea how to prepare. Does anyone have any advice about what the interview might include and what I should wear? I don't want to look silly by being over dressed in smart clothes or go too casually and they think I'm not taking it seriously. I want this job and don't want to ruin my chances by not being prepared for the interview.

Thank you

Hey OP, I don't know the answer to your particular question on dress code, but I didn't want your thread to go unanswered.

I'd have guessed that smart-casual is best, something you'll be comfortable bending down/picking stuff up in too.

I also wanted to say good luck and you can clearly rock this, you can tell just by the way you write Smile It's so easy to be anxious and build it all up once you're out of it, but you're on track to tackling that which is the first big step!

The assessment is probably some group exercises to see how you work with others etc. Practice some general interview questions like why do you think you are suitable for the role, why do you want to work for Waitrose etc. Good luck!

I had an assessment for boots few year ago.
It was basically a walk of the floor, offering baskets to customers they had a handful, looking at the shelves as to what would need restocked, was it tidy etc.
Guessing along the lines of this or a group thing.
What to wear, trousers and a top is fine, blouse of some sort, cardy, nice polo neck etc.
Small casual if that makes sense (no jeans)

Good luck!!

Good luck OP. Push that you love the idea of being part of the Partnership!

Thank you for the replies.

I know it sounds silly as it's not for a high post job, but I'm feeling quite nervous.

The store closes at 8pm and the interview is at 9pm, so I'm not sure what sort of tasks they will have us doing at that time.

I have been doing my research on the company and it seems like a great company to work for. But then I keep thinking that when I really want something in life, I generally don't get it (apart from my children) so then I'm doubting myself.

Anyway thank you for replying to me and I'll hope for the best and give it my best.

Hello,
If it’s practical, can you have a walk around the store itself tomorrow, during opening hours, to familiarise yourself with it? But I realise that might not be possible as they’ve not given you much notice.
Perhaps look at the website and pick out one or two items that you think they do well, packaging that is attention grabbing or an unusual product like an artisan cheese for instance.
I think they will be looking for enthusiastic people with an interest in their company.
Lots of luck, l hope you’re successful!
