He’s not wrong is he?
I know he generally is on about USA, but the U.K. - feels like people cannot be arsed to go back to shite jobs with shite pay with shite management?

My DH work is a fairly nice atmosphere.
His bosses are quite reasonable , they get sick pay ,but not much above the minimum wage.
DH has been covering the crappiest part of their office, ( not his job) as the work cannot get or keep staff- they don’t want to be getting hassled for minimum wage.
And DHs bosses have got him thinking that they’re doing him some sort of favour by continuing to employ him?
They’ve NO STAFF Angry

Yeah : f*ck that. If you’re going to take a shitey job role, then at least pay me well

Other side is: I’ve found any service I’ve received recently has been quite bad - staff are outright rude ( and tbh I don’t blame them ) but it’s still like “woah!” when you get let down.
Are we just accepting that a Hermes /yodel parcel may or may not appear today/tomorrow/in a bin…? I was served a cold dinner in a restaurant this weekend. Just got a “sorry….” as I’d already paid for it on a bloody app.
Staff member on webchat just down right lied, to get me off the chat a few nights ago..

Have YOU left a crap job? What are you doing now ?
Do you have an important job ( nursing ) and left because youd rather stack shelves in Tesco for £9 an hour ?

Feels like a huge big change in society…

where have all these people gone, do they not need to work ?

FeatheredHope · 23/11/2021 20:26

This is what I can’t work out!!

Moonface123 · 23/11/2021 20:29

Working in a supermarket is an important job, it means people can eat.

Bunce1 · 23/11/2021 20:31

You are not wrong.

Minimum wage is a joke. Pay people a proper wage!

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 20:32

@Pigeoninthehouse
@FeatheredHope
I expect the low income ones have now realised they can cope on benefits for a bit less money , than working 40+ hours for the pleasure of being able to pay your own rent?
And the qualifieds are happy not to be having the piss taken and do life/death jobs but with no support /employment gaps and switch off when they hit Sainsburys Local to pump gas?

I don’t know .. that’s how I’m asking ? Hmm

What are you all up to?

OP posts:
Letsgetonwiththis · 23/11/2021 20:32

Living wage as minimum. Plus unions

Ps is just on the anti work US babdwagon. It is totally correct IMO however he is just a hitchhiker

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 20:34

@Moonface123 I totally agree mate, I would be raging if ID spent 18 months getting coughed or spat at by the general public whilst everyone else was in their f*cking hot tubs …

I hope not, I'm proud to be working instead of having workers paying for my choices. Benefits are for people who need them, not the can't be arsed brigade.

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 20:36

@Letsgetonwiththis whos PS , sorry?

OP posts:
DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 20:40

@EatSleepRantRepeat yeah I used to be quite happy to have a job ( in my 20s) instead of signing on, but I worked in retail and it was appalling : now I’d say to anyone - don’t bother , stay signing on Shock just because it was so shit!

So I really don’t blame them.

Bloody all these mad ba*tard kajillionaires going into space, but wee Katy’s having to stay 20 mins unpaid after her shift cos the shops untidy?

OP posts:
EatSleepRantRepeat · 23/11/2021 20:44

If Katy had an effective union that dealt with things properly, she wouldn't have to - but Unions and Labour are a complete joke in 2021. They'd rather have people stay home on benefits because it's an instant voter base that they can promise free stuff to, while the rest of us who worked throughout lockdown are taxed to high heaven to pay for everyone else's furlough.

Letsgetonwiththis · 23/11/2021 20:48

@EatSleepRantRepeat oh really? Whilst I agree unions are not as responsive as they should be...no where near. The benefit bashing shows your true opinions of those who have less

EatSleepRantRepeat · 23/11/2021 20:58

My true opinions of people who are perfectly capable of working but sit at home on their arse, yes. How are we supposed to afford to keep benefits at a liveable level for the disabled and infirm without more people like me to pay taxes for them? Why should I pay for perfectly healthy people to stay at home because work is "shit", as you mention above?

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 20:59

@Letsgetonwiththis it’s the choosing to have less , rather than suffer crap jobs that I find interesting Shock
Have you seen all the restaurants in USA just with no staff cos they’ve all walked out? And I don’t think their benefit system is robust as ours? Shock

"Keep" ?

Disability benefits have been repeatedly cut. They are not at a liveable level and people have died trying to access them because it's so difficult.

Attitudes like yours are the reason for that.

Letsgetonwiththis · 23/11/2021 21:02

Its the acceptance that people should have jobs that do not pay for their basic needs that I do not find acceptable. Whilst billionaires literally shit rockets

When did rich people become more human than everyone else?

MrsChuckBass · 23/11/2021 21:07

I'm a nurse Smile I work in a nursing home facing closure because we can't get enough healthcare assistants. The posts are going out but no one is applying-undervalued and underpaid it's such a disgrace what they are paid that I don't blame people for not applying.

icelolly12 · 23/11/2021 21:12

@FeatheredHope

where have all these people gone, do they not need to work ?

This is what I can’t work out!!

Back to the EU
DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 21:14

@MrsChuckBass I’m not surprised
I couldn’t do it : great money or no!
The HCAs that actually are good at their jobs are probably so undervalued and paid, and presumably , what the whole bloody industry has been relying on !
Thanks for looking after everyone Mrs CB! Flowers

OP posts:
DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 21:15

@icelolly12
Some people here don’t want to do the shite jobs for shite money but happy to send away the ones that would … was probably always going to happen but surprised at how fast.

OP posts:
Letsgetonwiththis · 23/11/2021 21:21

@DaisyStiener yep. Whilst calling everyone on benefits lazy and not understanding that no car/no childcare means that accessing a minimum wage job either doesn't work or isn't worth it

Plus why should people work like that to make the rich richer. When they do not pay taxes?

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 21:25

@Letsgetonwiththis on don’t let’s get started on the joy of paying someone else to look after your children so you can work hoodwinkery! That was a good trick…Sad

Hospitality sector here.
I've left, we've all left!
Stupid anti social hours, unreliable deliveries, the great general public and shit wages .
Being furloughed made me realise I could survive on a lot less money and have evenings and weekends.
I went back for 6 months but I literally couldn't stand it anymore so got a mon- fri job .

HermioneWeasley · 23/11/2021 21:28

Over a million people have left the workforce since the end of 2019. It was masked by the pandemic, but now everything is open again, industries that relied heavily on overseas workers are really struggling.

It’s a systemic change and the government needs to allow immigration to get back to where we were, or what we’ll have is a cycle of massive inflation while everything that can be automated is automated (not hard to make the case at £15/hour for an employee) and suddenly there will not enough jobs again.

It’s incredibly short sighted, but they won’t fix it because it’s a massive Brexit impact and they can’t admit we actually need that workforce

DaisyStiener · 23/11/2021 21:28

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey oooh reallu what are you doing now if you don’t mind saying ?
Were your eyes just opened ? To all of the above?
Hope new jobs better
