Working from home allowance?

I'm confused.
I work from home. Part of that is self-employment (I do self assessment), and part is employment.
Can I claim working from home expenses for both? So with self-employment, there's a modest fixed amount you can include as expenses to cover utility bills. It's based on how many hours you work. Can I claim this, plus the weekly amount (fixed amount last tax year due to Covid) tax allowance for working from home as an employee? I can't ask my employer about this - they're useless.
I spoke to HMRC, but they said they didn't know. I also asked the tax credits people, who also said they didn't know, so I don't know whether I count this when calculating income for tax credit purposes.
Any help much appreciated.

Hoping someone knows something about this?

I think this is an area of some difficulty for employers. Your self employment is nothing to do with your employers. Some employers are making some small contributions to expenses at home but others will point to the savings employees are making on transport costs to and from work.

If you have a contract with an employer that stipulates home working that could include an indication of expenses they will pay. That’s entirely separate from your self employment. If you cannot discuss any expenses with your employer (and would they be taxed?) I think you are in the fortunate position of getting something. But ask your employer if you are out of pocket. If you are seriously better off by working at home, I would probably say nothing!

Thank you. I've always worked at home - it's a requirement of the job. The employer doesn't pay for my expenses at all. But there's an allowance you can claim from the government, which is a set amount of I think £8 a week which is set against your earnings. Is it okay to claim this in addition to the set amount I can put against my self-employment?

I’m sorry I simply don’t know. I expect someone else will.

I think you need to ask an accountant.
