Retraining as HGV or digger driver?

I want to retrain.

I am late 30s and work pt in hospitality at the moment.

We have young dcs, and my dh works fairly flexible office hours. So, theoretically we could put dcs into ASC and dh would collect them if I wasn't around.

Is this doable? Is it easy to get into these jobs? I know there's an HGV driver shortage at the moment, but not sure how easy it is to get into the sorts of jobs I'd like, which would be the big depot runs along motorways, rather than High Street type runs.

Any other thoughts? We have some money that I inherited a few years ago and could cover training for either, but obviously it isn't pocket change. It's in the thousands to train and I'd obviously like to recoup that by getting a good job at the end of it.

Has anyone retrained like this? Can anyone advise at all?

I have an EU (Irish) passport and also speak French quite well, having lived there. So think these things may come in useful?
