Applying for job while pregnant

I'm 7.5 weeks pregnant and an opportunity has come up at a previous employer that would suit me quite well. I've potentially got an interview this week, but I'm feeling slightly uncomfortable about the pregnancy thing, especially as it's returning somewhere I've worked before with people I know, etc. I don't want anyone to think I'm taking the piss, if that makes sense?

I'd plan to work the same hours after DC2 arrives and take a standard maternity leave (7/8 months probably). The hours fit around DH's work so childcare isn't a problem.

Am I silly to feel weird about it? Should I mention it if I get a job offer? Or wait until nearer the 'legal' time to tell? Blush

Not any more unreasonable to join pregnant than it would be to join with intention of getting pregnant in my opinion. But would moving jobs while pregnant impact on maternity pay?

Starcaller · 07/11/2021 16:02

No, I'm currently self-employed so would just get maternity allowance in both cases anyway Sad

Hi OP, in theory and legally you should be able to take the job and they pay you what you are due.

But in practice it depends where you are applying for your job. Big massive company - go for it. Small independent business its a bit of a piss take.

I have three kids, I know what its like but a small business like mine would suffer to be frank and I would be pissed off.

It's a big international company with thousands of employees. Yes, I can see how small businesses would struggle Sad. It's tricky, isn't it?
