Health and safety

One of the rooms in our workplace has been deemed unsafe by health and safety due to it having no ventilation and being little more than a cupboard with a large photocopier in it . Despite this our managers appear to be pushing for staff to use this room . I would also be concerned about lack of ventilation with Covid . Where could I and colleagues turn for advice ?

Health and Safety Executive is good first point of contact.

But they will have expected you to have have first raised it with Mgt and unions and any H&S rep at work.

Check out links here: <a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210419151604/www.hse.gov.uk/contact/authority.htm" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20210419151604/www.hse.gov.uk/contact/authority.htm

Oh. Just re-read your post. What does H&S rep say about being over-ruled?
Thats not good.
Def talk to HSE.
Good luck!

We have never actually had any contact with health and safety just been told whatever they say to the managers . Can you anonymously contact health and safety ? I work in civil service type role (being deliberately vague here )

There should be a member of staff nominated for H & S. It is not actually illegal although a photocopier requires a certain distance to a desk and ventilation. HR should have a point of contact or union rep?

Thanks a colleague and I raise the issues of ventilation a few years ago along with dangerous plug sockets ( everything works off extensions ) and thr manager at that time made a big fuss to stop us filling in health and safety assessments . The room originally functioned as a cupboard .
