Teacher salary 1 day per week

Hello. I'm considering asking my employer (primary school) if I could cut down to working one day per week on a 0.2 contract.

Does anyone know what take home pay is like on M6 or upper 1 for teachers working one day a week outside of London? Just seeing if we could manage it financially

Thanks

Use listen to the taxman and it will tell you

Cant see a school agreeing to 1 day a week - after PPA it is only a few hours in the classroom. We have a minimum of 3 days.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping to do two afternoons PPA cover but we shall see. I'll have a look at the website

Does 2 afternoons equal 0.2 in your school ?
They are less than a morning normally.

Are you M6 or U1 ?

Does your school have teachers covering PPA ? Or do they save money by using HLTA cover ?

1 day?!
I can't either and we use hltas for PPA now.

Ah, 2 afternoons PPA cover a week - the dream! Grin

I saw a 0.2 primary teacher advert last summer, so the job must exist, even if not common.

ThePlumVan · 01/11/2021 23:21

@Scarby9 there are lots of 0.2 - usually to backfill someone who’ve dropped a day to 0.8

It’s not normally for 2 afternoons or for ppa cover in my experience but it might be for OP

sabrinatheteenagemortal · 02/11/2021 05:19

We've had a couple of teachers in our school doing 0.2 so it does happen. It's always been to pair with a teacher doing 0.8 tho. On m5 I think I was around 1600 a month for 0.8 so given you will be paying less tax and on a slightly higher pay point I'd reckon around 500 for 0.2. There are calculators online which will do the proper maths for you though!

Thats not 0.2 Pm is shorter than am
MissCruellaDeVil · 04/11/2021 23:56

My school wouldn't agree to that, we use HLTA's for cover though.

Howshouldibehave · 05/11/2021 00:00

£4/500?

Teachers haven’t covered PPA in schools round here for though! All done by TAs on near minimum wage at my school Confused

OnSilverStars · 05/11/2021 21:41

Hi! Yes we usually have HLTAs but I thought I'd try. I'd be happy to do 1 full day to. I'm on L9 st the moment
