Help on interview Question... Best achievement outside of academic life??

My son is going for his first proper job interview since leaving Uni ....
He's been told to think about proudest achievements outside his academic life ?
Any interesting suggestions would be much appreciated!! Smile

Well, obvs he needs to scan back and find a few options
Maybe
Driving test/because I had to overcome xyz
Being part of x team because we worked our way up the league
Supporting a younger student when they had a problem
Volunteering because I had to do things outside my comfort zone and I learned xyz

I used to interview prospective graduates for a large company. We didn't ask this exact question but my advice would be:

  1. Pick something he is truly proud of- it comes across if you use examples that you're not really interested in
  2. Think about WHY he's proud of that thing. I would have been looking for an example where the candidate had to work really hard and overcome some sort of barriers (needed to learn new skills, had to go outside comfort zone, had to get other people on-board with a project etc). For me, the WHY would have been much more important that whether I thought the actual achievement was that impressive
