I work in civil service admin role, been offered a promotion with no staff to manage. I should be delighted but I've really scared!

I only really worked entry level jobs, it's a temp role for a year with the opportunity to apply for a permanent post at a later stage. I'm just worried I won't like it or that I won't have a clue what I'm doing! My job at the moment is easy but i dunno just looking for some advice/thoughts?

TIA

Take it, without hesitation. Congratulations!

Thanks they rang and I've accepted, my old position will remain open so that's given me a bit of relief knowing if I really really hate it i can go back

Well done and good luck

That's good but make sure you don't end up doing both jobs?

Seainasive · 14/10/2021 12:51

Well done! If they have offered it to you, this must mean they believe you are capable of doing well in the role. Remember that nobody wants to see you fail in the new role. Ask for help when you need it.

Well done! They wouldn’t have offered you the role if they didn’t believe you were capable, plus remember you’ll be given some training - not just thrown in head first. Congratulations!

Have faith in yourself. It'll be hard at the beginning as it's a change but you'll soon learn new skills for your role. You may look back and wonder why you undersold yourself so long and that it took
Your employer to nudge you to this promotion

How exciting. Well done x

kegel · 15/10/2021 12:02

Thanks everyone, it's a different department so no luckily no chance I'll end up working both roles, i feel quite proud of myself and I'm learning to keep asking questions, i know one person already from the new department so at least i can comfortably ask them questions if I'm stuck!

Go for it and good luck! You’ll be fine, esp. if you and going from staff to no staff, people management is the biggest mare in CS….

Make an effort to build your networks in the new dept, it’s always a bit lonely at first but you’ll be fine 😊
