How do I chase up a job?

Back in August I sort of interviewed for a job twice via a friend. Outlook looked good at the time but as the position was being created it was early days and needed to be agreed. The board meeting was set for the end of September so I expected a long wait, and then my friend went away. Last week he asked to schedule a call to follow up but it never happened. I sent him a message on Friday to tell him when I returned to work so he knew my availability and I haven't heard back.

Without being told there is no job, which of course I know is a possibility, how can I chase him up again? Even if it's a no, surely he would want to follow up? He approached me afterall with the role. As much as I really want this job (it could change mine and my DS life) I also would just like to know either way so I can continue looking for other work.

Thanks for any advice

By sort of interviewed, I mean it was never intended to be the 'normal' interview process as we have known each other for a very long time now and he knows my working background

It all sounds pretty informal. If he's a friend, call him and ask

Thank you. Yes you're right. It was informal but I think im worrying as the call didn't happen last week and my message wasn't responded to. He has mentioned a follow up now 3 times in total but its not happened yet.

I dont want to come across as too much but I also want to know either way. It doesn't help that this opportunity would mean the world to me and would change our lives in that we wouldn't struggle like we do now
