A few weeks ago I had a panic attacks and ill before work daily. Long story short, after a scary panic related incident, I have been off work sick. I decided I couldn't face going back to work so have resigned. It does put me a bit of a situation but I could not go back there.

I was starting to doubt myself, until yesterday when I was told that my work is now being done by four full time people!. I don't know why I, posting here, I just feel I had to rant somewhere!

Flowers how awful for you. I am very glad you have escaped at least, but it never should have got to that.

Obsidiansphere · 06/10/2021 12:47

I bet they’re missing you! You must’ve saved them a fortune 😡
I hope you recover soon Flowers

Well, now you’ve learned your lesson that going forward there is no point giving your all at the expense of your own health and you should do what your paid to do and not let your boss take the piss out of you.

I didn’t learn that lesson until I was 23. Sometimes it takes a big piss take before you realise.

Don’t be a door mat.

I had the same recently- I knew I was overworked, I knew it was affecting my health but it didn’t really hit home how bad it was until I left and they replaced me with three full timers. Be glad you got out of it one way or another, and hope you’re better soon.

I recently went off sick and they hired someone full time at a senior level to do one part of my job that I'd been doing as an extra. They also employed someone 0.5 wte to do another part of my job that again I'd been doing as an extra.

Funny how that happens. I hope you are ok. I got really good support from work and am now back (was also off for anxiety etc) and feel like I have much better boundaries

Thank you all for the replies. It's crazy when I think back on it, and you're absolutely right boundaries are a necessity which I will bring into the next job.

Thanks all again.

So sorry to read this. I spent a huge part of my 20s and 30s being a doormat for a bullying boas. I missed our on so much and it’s life I can never get back.

Really glad you’re out of there and wishing you much luck in the future.

Wallywobbles · 07/10/2021 04:56

Can I suggest you do some kind of course on the boundary issue. It's harder to do than you might imagine.
