Civil Service Job Offer

Is anyone employed by the Civil Service? After a very long process I've been offered a job that is not the one I originally applied for. I can't seem to get any more info on what the job actually involves. Is it usually this hard to get information?

If it was on a bulk campaign eg 10 vacancies for the same role, then you won't get to know the details until you start as you can be allocated to any team with a vacancy for that role.

You will have applied for a role based on a job title and set of required skills and capabilities. That's probably about as much detail of the role as you'll get in advance. Was the role admin, policy, technology, process?

Presumably you had the opportunity to ask questions about the role during your interview?

Interview questions were recorded & I had to record my answers so no opportunity to ask questions. The role is within the Border Force

Just rereading your OP, sorry I missed that they're offering you a job that's different to what you applied for. How did they let you know it was different? Did they say "we'd like to offer you the role of Project manager, you originally applied for Business Analyst"?

Have you literally had zero human contact with anyone throughout the entire process?

Sorry, you aren't giving us much to go on here!

It's quite common to recruit by grade. What has been said to you?

Hueandcry · 04/10/2021 21:29

I have had no personal contact with anyone. I was offered a role which I accepted. I then received an email saying they had made a mistake & the role they offered me was not available but another role was on offer. Ihave no details of the role. Im just confused & there doesn't seem to be an opportunity to speak to anyone

You could try [email protected]
Was there not a single email address anywhere on the application form or candidate pack? You might have to login in Civil Service jobs and have a look around. Legally I think they’re obliged to so that you know where to complain in case of discrimination.

If by accepting a role you mean signing and returning a contract then I think they’d have to honour it.

As a previous poster says, there should be an email address on the advert you did apply for, you could email to ask for someone to contact you to discuss the new role

I have recently worked in Civil Service recruitment and there was a team so we could get hold of the vacancy holder and ask them to call you ( we managed several adverts)

It's a very strange experience isn't it. I have had similar and turned down several really outlandish offers until something reasonably suitable turned up.

I don't think it makes for a great starting experience but my civil service colleagues tell me otherwise!
