Hi everyone, this is my 1st time posting, I would really appreciate any advice and support, My daughter is 16 and started her level 2 animal management course at Askham Bryan this September. She is wanting to progress to be a veterinary nurse so is the 1st step she has taken towards her career goal. She has to do 150 hours over the next 12 months voluntary work with animals but is struggling to get a placement. She has rang numerous dog groomers & vets in York and nowhere is able to help. I was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas of where else to contact or if knew anyone that would be willing to help? 🤞😊 Amy

I don't have any contacts but your daughter may have more luck contacting local rescue centres. They're often crying out for volunteers to help with the animals.

Try your local hedgehog rescue. The ones near us are crying out for volunteers/winter fosterers. (Also any other species rescue or rehoming charity that is run by volunteers).

If she has experience with horses there may also be yards or owners who would be open to having some help.

I did this for my degree too. Try farms, petting zoos, abattoirs if she thinks she can handle it etc. Think outside the normal placements.

Small rescues are your answer here. I'm in the North East so probably too far but I know of several that would bite your daughters hand off for help.

Thank you everyone for your kind help so far, yes the rescue centres are a good point we hadnt tried so will give them a go! 👌

The veterinary industry is struggling for staff, are there any animal care assistant vacancies near by? This is the best way into vet nursing, is paid and gives loads of hands on experience.
Otherwise animal shelters?

What about local dog walkers?
