Resigning nicely

I've been in my current contract job for 6 weeks. I posted on here about quitting after 2 weeks but its settled down now. I've been looking and have just been offered a perm role. I only need to give a weeks notice but I'd like to give more as we're at a critical point in the plan. How do I broach the subject with my boss who will be upset.

It's perfectly acceptable and understandable to leave a non permanent job for something more secure.

Print off your resignation letter, I’d inc only leaving for perm role and speak to your manager in person.

You can offer to stay on past the week and see what they say.

It's very normal for managers to accept resignation letters of all kinds all the time. They should be used to it.

Good luck!

I would not give more notice than I had to. Honestly people can take advantage and I've come across some real horrible cases where they've tried to give more notice then been out of a job more quickly than they though. Play by the book and unfortunately don't be nice - it doesn't necessarily play off.

Broach it in the same way as you'd hand your notice in anywhere - respectfully.

Tell her that you know your notice period is a week but you're available until x date if it helps. Let them decide.

You can thank them for the opportunity, and perhaps express what you liked about the job/ role
