Do I just ignore colleagues not doing their work?

I work as a team and we have rolling jobs to do weekly.

For some reason no one ever manages to finish their jobs.

I’m now trying to get up to speed for two weeks of work that wasn’t done.

Management don’t take an interest in my work, we didn’t have 121s etc. I will approach them with an individual issue I have.

I’m not sure if its worthwhile staying this or I should keep shut? It’s a new job for most of the team.

Perhaps you should raise it with mngt, not naming names but saying that the team seems to be struggling to complete tasks and perhaps some more training is needed. Confirm by email so it's recorded. Perhaps detail a couple of the tasks that are unfinished.

Then you've raised it. If mngt chooses not to act, that's their problem.

Management have said “can only get done what you can get done”.

^ Oooh that’ll go down well, not.

Why, in your opinion, can’t they get their jobs done?

  • They don’t seem to care, I’d be keeping my head down, doing my job as best I could and looking for a new job. You aren’t part of the management team and it’s not really your concern to monitor other staff.
If it’s rolling jobs, that sounds fairly monotonous perhaps management are prepared to let it slide if jobs aren’t finished in order to retain staff? It’s a new team maybe people are still finding their feet. I can appreciate that constantly picking up after other people would be annoying, especially if it’s because they’re chatting etc. It doesn’t sound like the right job for you.

Constantly on their phones and chatting etc.

Sorry, not your job to monitor other staff. (Plus you’ll look like a snitch-sorry).

Do you all have specific assignments or a bunch of stuff you need to get through?

Just do your own work , and keep a record of how much you've done when. If it ever gets picked up you can show what you did/that you finish on time. Not your job to manage the others, that's why management gets the higher wages. Let them work for their money.

FleasInMyKnees · 21/09/2021 12:59

Is it vital work, I would just keep you head down, do your own work, keep a record of it and let the others get behind, if management dont care then dont put yourself through the stress of worrying either, are the company likely to go under if the works not done.

Talktalkchat · 21/09/2021 17:29

Ok today I had a “backlog” of 2.5 weeks of work. It’s taken me 2 days to clear. The work isn’t excess, just people don’t do it.

Was it your own work or others , no one will thank you, the more you do the less the others will do. What sort of work is it.

It’s literally a team effort.

We rotate tasks, if it’s not done the week before it’s done the next week.

I literally wouldn’t care if they weren’t doing any work and didn’t have an impact on my work.
