New job and so unhappy

I started a new role a few months ago. Good pay, senior position. The company didn't tell me they had a issue with staff turnover and a particularly macavillien director. I work for the owner but with a dotted line to him. I complained about his behaviour towards me and got an apology. However four weeks later he is back to undermining me and questioning all my work and progress. I don't want to be unemployed. We have no formal HR department. Staff resign every week sighting working conditions causing poor mental health. I am embrassed by this behaviour. He obviously isn't and the owner thinks he is great. I am also blocked from seeing her without him. I think he tabled to get rid of me a few weeks ago but it didn't happen. I now have even more to do with staff morale assigned to me! Words of wisdom appreciated

Sounds awful. I think that realistically you need to consider moving on, and starting to look for a new job.
You have nothing to lose by approaching the owner first and setting out how you feel, with examples, and giving them a chance to improve things.
