Pregnancy and ECT

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to have some advice as I am/might be in a tricky situation. I have just started my ECT (Early career teacher) two weeks ago and there is a possibility I might be pregnant (I’m very late on my periods, and I did two first response tests that had a very, veeeery faint pink line so not sure and did a clear blue one that said negative so I’m waiting a few days to try another one). I’m just wondering what you think would happen with work, as it was not planned, and I’m worried it’s going to look bad as I’ve just started. (It’s a permanent contract). I was also wondering what would happen financially as if I’ve read correctly I wouldn’t be eligible for maternity statutory pay. Me and my partner have been together 7 years and really want a baby but I’ve just been pushing it because I wanted to get settled in my job first so I’m feeling a little bit lost right now.
Just wanted to get some advice! :)

The gov.uk calculator will help work out if you are entitled to SMP www.gov.uk/maternity-paternity-pay-leave. However, as you only started work 2 weeks ago you have probably missed out. I think, happy to be corrected, it is the date your last period started not when you had sex which is the key date.

WRT work, you are not the first and won’t be the last to get pregnant so quickly after starting and so they should be fine.
