public holidays

due to start new job on Monday

They told me in contract employees get 8 days public holidays

Its a national organisation and I'm home based in Scotland

I asked if the public holidays would be English public holidays or Scottish (we get different dates)

They said I'd get the Scottish dates

But Scotland gets one extra public holiday (St Andrews Day)

Do I ask if I get the extra day and if its paid?

I'm trying to schedule a hospital appointment and I'd ideally not like to use a work day or take annual leave (I'm hoping to save up annual leave to visit family abroad when restrictions allow).

Would it seem cheeky if I asked about how many days I got?

Not all organisations in Scotland take the St Andrews day holiday. Its mainly public sector (although schools stay open)

I would expect that although they have said you'll get Scottish holidays, this will end up being incorrect. I am in Scotland and have worked for two England based companies, one in the office and one home based and I got English holidays to keep it simple.

And schools do close for St Andrews Day where I am.

I have never had St Andrew’s day as a public holiday when I had Scottish holidays. I also didn’t get Good Friday and got 2nd January instead. @LadyDanburysHat my husband works for an English based employer but gets Scottish Holidays.
