After having a mini meltdown last week regarding my workload (doing several people's work, team not pulling weight, ever increasing targets etc, etc) I have been asked to speak with HR. I was also offered a helpline / employees support type thing. I have made it quite clear I do not wish to speak to a helpline what I want is the situation to improve on a practical level. The HR call is supposed to help address this I am told, but I'm now also paranoid I'm being assessed as incapable and not wishing to say the wrong thing whilst at the same time needing to stress the severity of the situation - it is giving me great anxiety and manifesting physically which isn't like me at all. I need to be able to state my case clearly and without emotion but get them to see the severity. Any advice?

List out all the things you are supposed to be doing and how long it is taking, on average?

Ring the helpline.
Share it all with them, talk it through and ask them to help you come up with a plan to address issues constructively and also give you some feedback on whether you are being reasonable or have any blind spots.

Good luck

The problem with the helpline (in my view) is it's people who have no idea what my job is or the pressure and no power to do anything.
The problem stems from senior management not addressing problems when they arise and thus things getting worse, more work piled on me, more unrealistic target etc. As an organisation we currently have high levels of stress and numerous operational problems. I'm not the only one by any means but the attitude is very much "there's bigger problems"

As an example I had a contractual problem last week that should have been addressed urgently/immediately. I couldn't address it because I was running an event because I don't have any staff. This then caused me 3 days of problems to resolve as it wasn't resolved immediately.

Thank you to those who have replied I do appreciate it even if I may seem defeatist!

Ring the helpline. It may help you frame what you want to say to HR.

It doesn't need to be a replacement for a practical change to your work situation.
