Legal Secretary Salary ??

Readysteadife · 11/09/2021 19:07

Would anyone be able to tell me approximately people earn as a legal secretary?

I work in a law firm , I started as a Receptionist two years ago and I was asked to move into the conveyancing team as an Admin assistant. I open files ,etc . I am getting paid a little above minimum wage.

I have now been asked to become a legal secretary. I am very excited. They are going to train me . However , I think I should be getting paid more as I will be doing more ?

Would anyone be able to let me know there approximate salary?

It depends where it is. If magic circle in the City, about £40k

More local firms I'm not sure

£21k at a Midlands firm just starting out

It depends where in the country you are? I'd say between 27k - 40k

mooloop · 11/09/2021 20:06

Depends where you are in the country but @notanotherjacketpotato that would be the salary of the actual conveyancer where I am! (NW). I'd say low 20s would be decent for a secretary in my area, absolutely no chance of it being over £30k.

Oh sorry 🤭 I'm south east and hired for these 5/6 years ago so was basing it on that

poopyface · 11/09/2021 20:11

22-26k

I am South West in a town and get paid £10.50 per hour. I don't consider that to be much however, I work in a very small criminal defence firm of Solicitors (which is notoriously poorly paid), I work part-time around school hours, it's very interesting, every one is lovely and the Director is hugely flexible. I'm sure other areas of law pay a lot me though. I think it'd be hard to gauge salary without knowing more.

honkytonkheroe · 11/09/2021 20:15

I think they may be about £20k if full time.

Are you all excellent typers ? This is one area I am not fabulous at . I have had very minimal office experience. However, they think I am very good and are keen for me to do more . I think at the moment I am on around £10 an hour . I am basically scanning , photocopying , tidying files, filing , opening and closing matters .

I will be working in a conveyancing team , it’s a biggish firm with 4 offices , about 100employees

Where are you based? Makes a huge difference

Plumtree391 · 11/09/2021 20:29

You'll have to be trained first but I think the salaries are quite good. However they don't look all that good on this:

Obviously it depends where you are and the precise nature of the work, your experience etc. Once you're trained you can look around.

Well done!

I am a good typist and have been in various office jobs for a lot of years but really learned to type at school in years 10 and 11 so touch typing is very quickly picked up bearing in mind I probably has about 2 lessons a week.
